Antique Automobile Club of America Museum Has Showstopper Exhibition!

STUNNING EXHIBITION AT THE Antique Automobile Club of America's (AACA) huge museum in Hershey. "Jewels of the JWR Museum" runs through January 31, 2010. The museum's Web site is: http://http://http//www.aacamuseum.org/.

We highly recommend the AACA museum to all our guests, and each week, many of our guests visit the museum and come back telling other guests how much they enjoyed it. What Craig tells everyone: "The museum is a Smithsonian Affiliate. The automobiles on display are usually restored to the 'nth degree' meaning they are show room quality. When you stand and look at a Cord or a Sterns Knight or a Dusenberg, it is like being in the 1930's, in the show room. All automobiles are road worthy and are driven! Yet, there isn't a spot of oil anywhere. Cars are shown in their natural environment. For example, the port hole Thunder Bird is shown in a drive in movie theatre!"

The current exhibition is based upon Pennsylvania resident John “Jack” Rich's collection. He opened his collection at the JWR Museum after retirement so people of all ages could experience the wonders of automotive history. The AACA Museum will be showcasing six spectacular and diverse vehicles that span from the early 1900’s – late 1940’s in the main exhibit gallery. Specific vehicles include: 1910 American Underslung Traveler, 1926 Rolls-Royce Springfield Silver Ghost Piccadilly Roadster, 1932 Delage D8-SS Cabriolet by Chapron, 1939 Horch 853a Cabriolet, 1939/47 Rolls-Royce Phantom III ‘Vutotal’ Cabriolet by Labourdette, and a 1948 Delahaye 135M Cabriolet by Figoni et Falaschi. Also currently on display from the JWR Museum is an original and unrestored 1911 Oldsmobile Limited 7 Passenger Touring vehicle. It is believed that this is the only completely unrestored and original example know to exist.

You can read all about the exhibition by going to http://tiny.cc/OzyA0.

Bonsai Returns to Hershey Gardens

For the fourth year in a row, the ancient horticultural art of bonsai returns to Hershey Gardens. This exhibition was developed by Craig George, the husband of Annville Inn B&B's innkeeper, Rosalie. As Director of the Gardens, Craig wanted to find a new use for the butterfly house while butterflies were absent for the fall and winter season. The bonsai exhibition has grown in quality year after year, and this season's display is expected to be...stunning.

Ever since we opened, we have had a steady stream of guests staying at Hershey's Annville Inn Bed & Breakfast, and making a pilgrimage to Hershey Gardens. You can find out more such as hours the day you plan to go by visiting: http://www.hersheygardens.org.

Valentines Weekend is here. Reserve now for NEXT YEAR!

Valentine's Weekend is always a special time at Annville Inn Bed & Breakfast. This weekend, we have guests staying here from as far west as Los Angeles, California and as far east as the Philadelphia suburbs. One couple, David and Samantha, are here for their fourth weekend with us! We love our guests and appreciate the many guests who return to us time and again, such as David and Samantha. We have two Inn photographs on today's blog posting. The first shows how Rosalie set her table this morning for Valentine's. The china she selected is used only two times a year, Valentines' Day being one of them. It is over 100 years old, from her Grandmother, who brought it from Europe (it was made in Great Brittan.) The other image is one Craig made late this summer of the Inn all socked in with fog, which rolled down from the Gap in the Blue Mountains and cradled the Inn in its mist until the sun came out and evaporated it shortly before breakfast. Rosalie got to enjoy it when she rose early to fix breakfast. Her guests slumbered quietly as the fog slowly rolled in, enveloped the Inn and the surrounding fields and barns, and then as quickly left--it was quite magical.

Annville Inn's Piano Tuner Extraordinare

The piano in our music room gets tuned several times a year by an expert piano tuner who comes here from Philadelphia. Meet Bob Haymes, piano tuner for famous performers! Bob, who is a tuning technician for Jacobs Music, the Stineway dealer in Philadelphia, has tuned concert grand pianos for many orchestras and performers. Bob has tuned pianos for Aretha Franklin, BB King, The Four Tops, Roy Clark, Dave Brubeck, Wenton Marsalis, and The Philadelphia Orchestra to name just a few of the well-known artists who trust their performances to Bob's perfectly trained ear. Bob and his beautiful wife Grace are also frequent guests of the Inn. This weekend they were here celebrating Grace's birthday!

Friday, January 30, 2009

We have been burning our wood stove in the conservatory practically non stop! Guests are enjoying the outdoor hot tub (at 105 degrees) in the midst of snow and ice! Others are snuggled up in our theatre room enjoying a movie on a cold winter's night. Four of our guest rooms have fire places--perfect for a romantic evening. This is the place to be! Don't forget that every February, we are drenched in chocolate...we bring out our chocolate fountain and all kinds of goodies to drench in rich chocolate all month long!

Late Arrival (smile)

Here you see some late arrivals at Annville Inn. The larger bulbs are hyacinths, flowers that shoot up early in the spring following the crocus. Hyacinths (hyacinthus orientalis) are extremely sweet smelling. Normally, Craig plants these in early fall, October to November. These, however, were late arrivals, going to bed in late December. They will still come up. The photo of the smaller bulbs is of two varieties of tulips that went to bed at the usual time in November.

These bulbs are only a few of the over 3,000 spring bulbs planted in our three acres of gardens! Need a get-away, a respite before spring hits? Then call the Inn and book a cozy room to snuggle in during these cold days of winter. Today, we have guests curled up in the theatre watching old movies and other guests enjoying the heavy snow that is coming down--they are in the conservatory, surrounded on three sides by glass, sitting in rocker chairs in front of a roaring wood burning fire.

One couple is putting together a jig saw puzzle at the conservatory's puzzle table, located only inches from the winter storm, but they are warm and snuggly inside, and sipping hot cocoa...just as I am while I write this. Winter is fun at Annville Inn!
